Providing free, confidential business mentoring, to transform the dreams of individuals within the community into sustainable and profitable businesses
Lori Silvan is a children's entertainer living in Kintyre, available for weddings, parties and festivals throughout Scotland. Her business is called Funky Chicken. Here's Lori's story, in her own words:
Lori loves doing Funky Chicken
"I had been running my business, Funky Chicken, for 8 years, and was starting to feel like I was getting nowhere with it. My motivation had dwindled and I was thinking it was maybe time to call it a day.
"Since meeting with the Opportunity Kintyre facilitator, I decided that I love doing Funky chicken and have renewed enthusiasm and inspiration. I have made some invaluable contacts, including a photographer who took some amazing photos for my promotional material, someone to design a generic leaflet for me and brainstorming ideas with other businesses that need to expand and who provide services for weddings. I have also gained a few helpers - the main one is particularly gifted at face painting.
"I no longer feel like I am working on my own as I know there are people who support what I am doing, and that it is worth continuing, and evolving my business.
"Apart from Funky Chicken, Opportunity Kintyre has given myself and my partner new friends, new business opportunities and useful contacts. I feel proud to be involved in something that is so exciting, so innovative and good for the area.
"There! (Now that I've written all that, I realise just how much I've actually achieved in one year with help from Opportunity Kintyre - and you can quote me on that too).
"Thanks!!!"
